Aura Bot is a minimalist, AI-powered companion robot app designed to bring emotional intelligence and seamless assistance into daily life. The interface combines futuristic 3D gradients with clean geometric forms, creating a calm and intuitive control experience. Users can monitor the robot’s status, customize behaviors, and interact through expressive motions and light-based feedback. The design focuses on simplicity, empathy, and the future of human–AI living.

Fragmented Smart Home Experience Users often have to switch between multiple apps (lighting, cleaning, security, health tracking) to manage their home. This creates cognitive overload and disrupts the sense of control. Elderly & Family Monitoring Challenges Families with elderly members need a simple way to monitor health and ensure safety — current smart devices are too complex and require multiple platforms to operate. Low Emotional Connection with Robots Most home robots lack a “humanized interaction” system, making them feel cold and purely functional. Users, especially the elderly, struggle to form emotional attachment or trust. Unclear Task Feedback & Control Interface Users can’t easily understand the robot’s current state or actions. Many apps present data in technical formats rather than user-friendly feedback.

Unified Smart Home Control Interface AURA BOT centralizes cleaning, lighting, voice commands, and security patrol into a single minimal dashboard — simplifying the multi-platform chaos into one cohesive experience. Real-Time Health and Family Integration Integrates with wearable devices to display biometric data (e.g., grandma’s heart rate, grandpa’s location) — allowing users to care for family members remotely and intuitively. Emotional AI Companion Design Introduces a “Companion Mode” — users can chat with AURA BOT naturally, bridging the emotional gap between humans and smart devices through friendly dialogue and presence. Clear Visual Hierarchy & Feedback System “System Status: STANDBY / ACTIVE” and task cards visually communicate the robot’s state; users can easily monitor and adjust actions in real-time through simple icons and micro-interactions.

The Challenge

As society ages, adult children living apart from their elderly parents is becoming increasingly common. Existing smart home devices are often passive (like fixed security cameras) and lack the ability for active physical intervention. How to integrate complex robot controls (navigation, mechanical arm manipulation), multi-dimensional data monitoring (family health, environmental security), and AI interaction onto a single mobile screen while maintaining interface clarity, usability, and a sense of technological trust.

From Pain Point to Product Idea

The Pain Point: "Remote Anxiety." Users don't just want to know if their elderly parents are safe; they want to be "present" to help in emergencies or handle simple household tasks remotely.

The Product Idea: Aura is not just a monitor; it is the user's "Avatar." Through the Aura Bot App, users can take control of the robot at any time, viewing elderly family members' vital signs and even performing remote patrols or object manipulation via the VR mode.

Holographic Dashboard: Real-time display of system status (CPU/Battery), quick commands (Clean, Lights), and crucial Family Biometrics (visualized as real-time heartbeat animations for "Grandma" and "Grandpa").

Immersive VR Telepresence: I can see the robot's perspective and remotely control it through the camera. A cockpit-style interface simulating a first-person view. It utilizes a virtual joystick for navigation and offers "Grab" and "Light" functions for physical interaction with the environment.

Sentry Network: Security Patrol, integrated with smart home monitoring capabilities, provides real-time surveillance. A multi-camera monitoring grid (4-camera view) enhanced with dynamic scan-lines and motion detection algorithms for comprehensive home security.

Smart Task Protocol: Tidy up the house, clean, organize the entire room, cook. Visualized task progress tracking. Users can schedule protocols like "Deep Clean," "Full Patrol," or "Inventory Sort" and monitor estimated battery drain in real-time.

Robot Interaction Research

To design a truly human-centered companion robot experience, I conducted an in-person field study with current-generation humanoid robots. Through hands-on interaction, live demonstrations, and discussions with engineers, I gained valuable insights into how users perceive robot behavior, responsiveness, embodiment, and emotional expressiveness.

This research allowed me to observe real user–robot interactions, identify usability challenges, and analyze gaps in current robot control systems. These findings directly informed the design of AURA BOT, helping me create a more intuitive, empathetic, and future-ready user experience.

Understanding the latest industry trends and technological constraints also strengthened the strategic foundation of my design, ensuring that AURA BOT aligns with both user expectations and the future direction of robotics.

You can also use VR glasses to control Aura Bot with gestures, remotely assist Aura Bot in completing ongoing tasks, or stop its current tasks. Assist Aura Bot in performing any gesture operation virtually.

"Teleport" home instantly. Experience a real-time First-Person View (FPV) through Aura's eyes. Use the virtual joystick to navigate freely and interact physically with your environment using the "Grab" and "Talk" functions.

Take full manual control with a high-definition, low-latency video feed. The interface integrates an omnidirectional joystick with a suite of environmental interaction tools—Scan, Illuminate, Grab, and Voice—giving you complete command over your home context.

Check on your loved ones through Aura's lens, no matter where you are. Whether it's seeing them safe in the kitchen or checking the stove, simply tap "Talk" to connect instantly, making remote care feel immediate and tangible.

A modal interface optimized for long-distance mobility. The "TAP TO NAVIGATE" interaction pattern simplifies complex movement commands into a single click, ensuring rapid robot deployment to critical areas even in urgent situations.
